The Norwegian Public Roads Administration

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration plans, builds, operates and maintains classified roads and county roads in addition to vehicle and motorist supervision. It provides regulations and guidelines for road construction, traffic, vehicles and motorist training. It is also responsible for ferry services connecting classified roads and county roads. The Public Roads administration faces major challenges in terms of road safety and its social responsibilities.

Customer status

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has a number of systems that need to be available at all times, for example a warning system for road conditions. One of the main challenges is coordination and making the interaction between the different systems work. A separate project has been established to develop a SOA platform to assist the Public Roads Administration achieving this.

Customer vision

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration aims to offer an effective, accessible, safe and environmentally friendly transport system providing for society’s need for transport and encouraging regional development.

NSA’s role and contribution

NSA has assisted the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s integration and development leading to the launch of “Vegloggen” (Roads log). The roads log distributes traffic information to different channels such as teletext, answering machine service (175), internet etc. NSA has also provided consultancy and development of other integration projects.

Technology

Oracle databases, Oracle Middleware, SUN Solaris OS and HP hardware. So far, Oracle Interconnect has been used for integration. In the future we will also consider using Oracle SOA Suite and SUN JCAPS. Development is carried out in Java.
